While global public opinion and decision-making chambers in Washington and Western capitals are focused on the status of tanker traffic, regional ceasefires, and proposals for economic exemptions, the regime ruling Tehran is focused on its most important strategic goal, which is to complete the nuclear escape project and achieve nuclear deterrence capability in the shadow of the crisis. <\/p>\n\n<!--more-->\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To better understand Tehran&#8217;s behavior, existing phenomena must be dissected in the context of proven theories of international relations:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brinkmanship:<br\/>In political science literature, \u201cbrinkmanship\u201d refers to a tactic in which an actor deliberately brings a crisis or risk of war to the brink of military conflict in order to force the other side to back down and make concessions in favor of peace. The Islamic Republic is following exactly this pattern in the Strait of Hormuz; creating the risk of war in the energy corridor for diplomatic blackmail. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Strategic Diversion:<br\/>A pattern in which a country or government, by creating an acute but controlled crisis in one area (security-maritime), diverts the opponent&#8217;s attention from a more deadly but silent threat in another area (completion of nuclear infrastructure).<br\/>In this way, the Tehran regime uses &#8220;brinkmanship&#8221; at sea as cover, and &#8220;strategic diversion&#8221; as a means of buying time, to divert international attention from high-purity enrichment and the installation of advanced centrifuges.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the course of its four decades, the Islamic Republic has proven itself to be a master of diplomatic deception and creating intersecting crises. Disrupting the vital Strait of Hormuz waterway and threatening communication lines is not the regime\u2019s ultimate goal; rather, it is a diversionary tool to stall world powers and divert attention from nuclear infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Great Deception of October 21, 1994 and the North Korean Experience&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The international community should not lose its historical memory in the face of the behavior of totalitarian regimes. On October 21, 1994, the United States and the international community signed the \u201cAgreed Framework\u201d with Pyongyang. At that time, North Korea, by creating regional tensions and threatening the security of East Asia, brought Washington to the negotiating table and received economic and fuel concessions in exchange for a commitment to freeze its nuclear program.  <br\/>But what was the result? Pyongyang used exactly the same diplomatic cover and international neglect, continued uranium enrichment in secret for years, and finally, in 2006, conducted its first nuclear test and became a nuclear power. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Islamic Republic is trying to trap the West in the same trap of &#8220;buying diplomatic time&#8221; by accurately recreating the same scenario in the Strait of Hormuz and the region!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;A frank statement to the international community and President Trump&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No temporary agreement or understanding on reopening the waterways should come at the cost of ineffective pressure or accepting the conditions of &#8220;Iran on the verge of becoming nuclear.&#8221;<br\/>Any indulgence in the regime&#8217;s promises of &#8220;long-term inspections&#8221; or &#8220;tactical pauses,&#8221; without the complete dismantling of dangerous and verifiable infrastructure, is a repetition of the same deadly path that North Korea took, and has brought the Islamic Republic close to acquiring a nuclear bomb.<br\/>Dealing with the IRGC&#8217;s man-made crises at sea is precisely a game played on the playground of Tehran&#8217;s think tanks to buy time and complete the arms cycle.<br\/>The regime now believes that if it can survive the limited remaining term of President Trump without any changes, it will insure its life forever by having access to nuclear weapons!<br\/>Although history has shown that possessing nuclear weapons will not necessarily be a definitive obstacle to the collapse of totalitarian regimes, it will certainly make things more difficult for freedom-loving peoples and other like-minded countries.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The time has come for Washington and its allies, instead of giving in to Tehran&#8217;s tactical maneuvers and embracing Venezuelan methods, to stand firm against the regime&#8217;s nuclear mistake and recognize the will of the Iranian people to transition from this infanticidal regime to the guidance and leadership of Prince Reza Pahlavi.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author: Danial Karimi The Islamic Republic&#8217;s recent crisis-making in the Strait of Hormuz and its transformation of international maritime and energy security into a tool of blackmail are part of a strategic and unprecedented game.
